Longboard Saturday

I've been shooting often recently, but no shots worth showing you until now.  Last Saturday (yeah- Saturday again) I was banging and sawing in the garage when my speedy neighbor Lukas ripped by on his longboard. I put aside my household DIY efforts, grabbed my camera, and rang him up on his cell for little photo session.  Lukas agreeably swung by my house on his way up the hill for another run and we made some fun images in front of my house.  Rhinoceros Longboards, his sponsor, ought to be psyched because he's sportin' their big red logo on his sweatshirt.

I popped up a ladder at the foot of my driveway and Lukas made a few runs.  It was great fun. The flat light sucked, but the ladder set me up with some nice compositions.  I really liked how my high point-of-view cropped out the houses lining the street and let me work with just Lukas and the paint lines in the street.  With all that though the light made the pictures a little flat. Thankfully, the setting sun added some reflected warm tones to the scene.

To compensate I kind of went overboard on post-processing trying to make the colors and texture more lively. I heaped on some contrast, brought up the warm tones on Lukas, then desaturated the warm tones from the street just leaving the reflected blue shadowy light. You really can't beat natural light...  and serendipity. One out of two, eh?

(Damn!  I had to spell check serendipity!!)
