More Suburban Landscapes

Turns out Lake Oswego presents difficult landscape photo opportunities due to the prolific number of trees. And now that the trees are all leafed out for summer I've found that intimate landscape (Eliot Porter-style) scenes are even harder to conjure up.  Incidentally, I think Mr. Porter would roll over in his grave to think I've compared my neighborhood photos to his sublime images.  However, I've always admired his style.

Yeah, I guess I'm not seeing his work in these photos, but I thought I was channeling him when I took them.

After scoping around last Saturday I found some views from the bridge over the canal feeding the lake, and from the causeway on North Shore.  I like the color contrast between red and green in the canal shots.

1. Up the Canal.

2.  Down the Canal.

I took this because I was drawn to the contrast between the vertical trees and the houses and water.
3. North Shore Cove.

  1. I like the many types of trees just around the house (second picture). Unlike Ohio, the trees don't look all the same around each property. Oregon has so many varieties.

I especially like the boat garages. Now that's the life!!! How far does this canal go?

  2. Lake Oswego is surreal. I live in a modest house surrounded by extreme wealth. I cross the canal bridge from where the photos were taken every day on my way to work.

The canal leading from the Tualatin River to fill the man-made lake is about a mile long. A short creek drains the lake into the Willamette River.
