The same photo- twice

I took this picture of Jack and Annabelle last week.  A little poignant, but things weren't nearly as tense as they appear in the photo. I think Jack was moping because I switched my attention to Annabelle. It was fun backyard time and the kids were laughing and hamming it up for Dad and the camera.

I was drawn to the the photo and it seemed familiar to me, but not enough for me to give a second thought.

A few days after I made the image and I was done patting my self on the back for a nice capture, I came across the two-year old photo below on my iPod.  I see quite a bit of similarity between the two images- Annabelle in front on the left and Jack withdrawn in the background.  .

We all fall back on compositional cliches. I know I have a few "tried and true" setups that I frequently use. Of course, I'm always striving to try to mix up my photo compositions, but familiar habits are hard to shake. These photos remind me to think about my style and watch out for personal image cliches.
